Moolah Book Review: You’re Broke Because You Want To Be

You’re Broke Because You Want to Be!

That’s what Larry Winget says in his new bestselling book “You’re Broke Because You Want To Be”. This book was the first one I have read of Larry’s and I enjoyed reading it. Although his book centers around personal finance, it is more motivationally focused and very entertaining.

If you’re looking for great savings tips, or the best investment strategy for your portfolio, then this book isnt’ for you. Larry makes a point to tell it like it is by telling people they are in the position that there in because they choose to be. That maybe a little harsh for some readers, but the reality is he’s 100% correct.

For some people who read this book it will be an eye-opener for them. He provides a good balance of smash talk and also compassion. The most compelling part is that he uses real life examples of people who were screwing up in their financial lives, and sometimes more than once. However, after buckling down and realizing the problem lied within themselves , and the situation they were in sucked. They decided to focus, and set forth the steps to a path to prosperity.

In my own situation, the book resonates in a very helpful way. My wife and I have little to no debt but we do not save that much because we are currently overextended with are home mortgages(personal residence, 2 rental properties). We find ourselves upset at times because we are unable to enjoy the fruits of our labor, and often find ourselves short handed for the things we want. However, after reading Larry’s book, his messages kinda hit home the fact that our financial issues things did not happen overnight and we placed ourselves in these situations. So we are beginning to get organized and are doing the things that will get us to a better place financially.

I have to recommend his book to anyone that does not have a secure grip on their financial life. Larry makes you take a hard internal look at yourself on the way you earn, save, invest, and spend money. He provides real life examples of himself and others, with no fluff or fillers. He gives you direct actions to apply, and solve any financial disaster. He shows you that excuses are tools of incompetence, and are no longer allowed if you want to be rich.

Though some of Larry Winget’s principles are not easy to digest, they are pretty easy to implement, If you really want to!

I am broke because I want to be. I have not worked for 7 years now to raise our 2 children to school age. My husband has gone from a nightshift job earning penalty rates to a normal dayshift position. With rising petrol prices and interest rates (in Australia) our finances are extremely tight - but these are the choices we have made for ourselves. I am happy with this choice and I know that it won’t be forever, though sometimes I do need to remind myself and husband of this. I do though look forward to the day when I will have more freedom to choose a healthier financial life.
Sounds like an interesting book - thanks for the review.
